We all wonder how to get rid of belly fat the so called dreaded muffin top or spare Tyre that we carry around so much.  These factors cause us back ache and heart ache, in turn it makes us eat emotionally!  Which means we eat even more to make ourselves feel better.  It’s a vicious circle nonetheless. 

 

I go to work everyday and see all these skinny folk sitting around the staff room snacking on a rice cake! A bloody rice cake, how can anyone survive the whole day on a rice cake?  Either that or you have the other type of skinny folk, who all they seem to do is eat, but yet never gain any weight!  How does that work?  How is that even fair?

The big question going through our minds is how to get rid of belly fat.  Some would say it’s simple, some would say that its impossible.  Let me share my hints and tips and you can decide for yourselves.

First things first.  You need to have the mindset that you are willing to work hard in order to shed some fat, no one said it’s easy. 

Secondly you need to be able to have some sort of willpower.  Basically you need to fight temptation and say no when there is a bag of cheese  fries or a huge bit of velvet cake staring you in the face.

 

OK! so let’s get down to the nitty gritty on how to get rid of belly fat

 

Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day 

The reason for this is so that you don’t mistake hydration for hunger.  A lot of people mistake the two of them regularly.  When you think you are hungry drink a glass of water, wait 15-20 minutes and see how you feel then. If you are still hungry then eat a small healthy snack.  Not only does it stop you feeling hungry all the time, but drinking plenty of water every day is essential to health.  Lacking in water causes a whole array of health problems in the long run.  Urinary tract infections, skin conditions, toilet problems and constant fatigue to name a few.  Drink plenty of water and you will look and feel better physically and mentally as it helps with concentration too.

Do food swaps

For example, swap a  Tall Starbucks caramel latte (220kcal) for a Tall Starbucks skinny caramel latte (100kcal) so that’s a saving of 120 calories just by swapping your daily coffee on the way to work.  Let’s say you done this 5 days a week.  You would save 600 calories in one week just by swapping your caffeine fix.  Therefore in one short month just by swapping your latte you would save 2400 calories by doing so.  It only takes a 3500 calorie deficit in order to drop 1lb of body fat.  Therefore you are guaranteed to see the belly fat disappearing in no time by food swapping. 

SLEEP….ZZZZZZZZZZZ! 

Make sure you get plenty of sleep each night, not only does sleep make you more beautiful, but that question we asked earlier how to get rid of belly fat?   Well this is one of your answers.  Having enough sleep at night is essential to anyone, more importantly to a dieter.  Staying up too late at night will give you more time to eat.  Eating too late at night will keep you up even longer too. 

Having a lack of sleep in your life will help you gain plenty of pounds.  People who tend to have an average of 7 and a half hours sleep per night lose weight whilst they dream away! People who have less sleep will have a slower metabolism and feel tired constantly, due to feeling tired constantly these people will no doubt reach for a large coffee full with sugar and a huge slice of pie to give them a wee pick me up.  These people also don’t have time or energy to make well balanced and nutritious meals so end up buying ready made processed meals that are full of sugar and chemicals.  Not only that, but the person who has the most balanced sleeping pattern will also be able to get rid of belly fat more easily or prevent it in the first place due to the hormones having a good balance. 

There are 2 different types of hormones that relate here, these are ghrelin and leptin.  Ghrelin is the hormone that tells your body you are hungry and tells you when to eat something, if you have a lack of sleep this hormone will not function properly as the hormone level is higher which in turn will make you eat lots more.  Leptin does the opposite, this one tells you when you’ve had enough.  When you are tired the levels of Leptin are rapidly lowered, this in turn means your bodies response to food won’t be as quick and the end result would be eating more which means you gain more weight.

It’s true  though, not only does exercise release good hormones which make you feel better, but exercise also helps you to get rid of that unwanted belly fat.  Interval training is the best type of exercise to undertake.  This is known as HIIT – high intensity interval training.  HIIT is where you run, cycle or exercise as fast as you can for a short period of time and then rest for a short period of time and then repeat and repeat and repeat again up to roughly 10 times.  HIIT has a wide array of variations depending upon your fitness level.  When it says rest it doesn’t mean stand still. 

Say you ran as fast as you could for 30 seconds, you would then jog moderately for 90 seconds.  HIIT is the most effective exercise for weight loss and training.  Running on a treadmill for 15 minutes straight will be less effective than 15 minutes of HIIT.

Carbohydrates

Another way of how to get rid of belly fat would be to cut out carbohydrates from your diet, or at least swap refined processed carbs for unrefined whole-grains.  For example, swap white rice and white bread for wholegrain rice and wholegrain bread.  White rice and bread have a higher glycemic index, meaning that after eating these sort of foods they get released into your bloodstream really fast thus in turn your blood glucose levels (insulin) spikes rapidly.  Due to this happening it makes you hungry faster.  Whereas if you eat wholegrain foods these have a low glycemic index, thus meaning it gets released slowly, which means that it doesn’t spike your blood sugar levels, meaning you will feel fuller for longer. 

Eating less carbs makes you look and feel slimmer this is another way on how to get rid of belly fat  due to the fact that carbs with hold water.  This is called water retention.  If you cut out carbs from your diet for a whole week, you will probably have a flatter tummy and have lost around 6 or 7  pounds.  This won’t be fat, it will just be your water retention, but it still shows how bad carbs can be.
Make sure you are eating like a king in the morning, having a big breakfast will set you up for the day and will kick start your metabolism.  For lunch have a healthy decent sized meal and for dinner make it light.
Cut out sugar from your diet.  Too much sugar causes weight gain of course.  You can treat yourself once every 2 weeks.  Having a treat to look forward to will make you power on.

Eat healthy fats

known as mono unsaturated fats.  These kinds of fats targets belly fat.  Not only do they do this but they make you feel fuller for longer, which in turn prevents you from snacking on crisps, sweets and chocolate.  Monounsaturated fats can be found in nuts and avocados along with canola oil and oily fish.

Spice it up

If you like spice, you are in for a treat, adding more spice and chilli to your diet can help shed those nasty pounds.  Most fat burning pills contain some form of chilli such as cayenne pepper.  It is said to speed up the metabolism faster and help keep you burning for longer.

Green Tea

It’s true, eating 5 or 6 small meals of 300-400kcal a day can be more effective than eating 3 meals a day.  The reasoning behind this is due to the fact that your body is constantly working and can burn 3-400kcal every 3-4 hours, but the average 3 meals a day consists of 6-700kcals and the body can’t burn all that at once. Your body always needs fuel to burn, if you don’t eat all day then your body will go into starvation mode and will store your fat until you eat something so always eat regularly and never starve yourself .
